Pulmonology
The Department of Respiratory Medicine is dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of a wide range of respiratory diseases. Its scope encompasses common, frequently occurring, and complex or critical conditions affecting the trachea, bronchi, lungs, pleura, and other respiratory organs. The department manages acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchial asthma, bronchiectasis, pulmonary nodules, pleural effusion, interstitial lung disease, sleep‑related breathing disorders, upper respiratory tract infections, and more. It also possesses the capability to promptly diagnose and manage severe and life‑threatening conditions such as severe pneumonia and respiratory failure. Leveraging the hospital’s state‑of‑the‑art imaging and endoscopic equipment— including CT, MRI, and advanced endoscopy—the department employs imaging studies, pulmonary function tests, and pathogen‑specific assays to accurately identify underlying causes, distinguishing between infectious etiologies, allergic reactions, degenerative changes, and early neoplastic lesions, thereby developing tailored diagnostic and therapeutic plans for each patient.
For chronic respiratory diseases, our department not only provides acute‑phase pharmacotherapy but also places great emphasis on long‑term disease management. We offer COPD and asthma patients comprehensive services, including disease assessment, medication guidance, pulmonary rehabilitation, and regular follow‑up, to help them control symptoms, reduce acute exacerbations, preserve lung function, and improve their ability to perform daily activities. For individuals with pulmonary nodules, we conduct standardized follow‑up assessments to distinguish benign from high‑risk lesions and provide evidence‑based recommendations, thereby avoiding overtreatment or delayed diagnosis. Our department serves both general adult patients and frail elderly individuals; in particular, recognizing that older adults often have multiple comorbidities, we perform a holistic evaluation of cardiopulmonary and overall physical health, balancing treatment safety with efficacy. In addition, we engage in health education, promoting smoking cessation, respiratory protection, and seasonal preventive measures, to help the public adopt effective strategies for the early prevention of respiratory diseases. When patients experience persistent cough with sputum, wheezing and chest tightness, chest pain, recurrent fever, or shortness of breath on exertion, they are encouraged to seek care in the Department of Respiratory Medicine, enabling early detection and timely intervention.
