General Surgery

General surgery is a foundational and core department within the surgical system, with a diagnostic and therapeutic scope that encompasses surgical conditions affecting multiple regions, including the neck, breast, abdominal wall, intra-abdominal cavity, hepatobiliary–pancreatic–splenic system, and gastrointestinal tract. It integrates open surgery with minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques, balancing emergency care with elective surgical management.

It integrates open surgery with minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques, balancing emergency management with elective surgical care. The department primarily provides surgical diagnosis and treatment for conditions such as thyroid nodules and tumors, breast nodules and tumors, inguinal hernias, abdominal wall hernias, various acute abdominal syndromes, appendicitis, cholecystitis, gallstones, biliary stones, hepatic masses, splenic lesions, gastric and intestinal neoplasms, gastrointestinal perforations, intestinal obstructions, and great saphenous vein varicosities. It also addresses superficial cutaneous lesions, including skin masses, sebaceous cysts, and lipomas. Leveraging the hospital’s advanced imaging and surgical equipment—such as high-definition laparoscopy systems, ultrasound, CT, and MRI—the department performs precision‑guided minimally invasive procedures, minimizing surgical trauma and accelerating postoperative recovery.

For acute abdominal conditions such as acute appendicitis, gastrointestinal perforation, and acute biliary tract infections, the department is equipped with rapid emergency management capabilities, enabling timely surgical intervention to mitigate critical risks. For thyroid, breast, and gastrointestinal tumors, we adhere to standardized oncologic surgical protocols, performing curative resection and coordinating with the Oncology Center for comprehensive postoperative adjuvant therapy. For common conditions like hernias and great saphenous vein varicosities, minimally invasive techniques are prioritized to reduce postoperative pain and shorten hospital stays. The department places great emphasis on comprehensive perioperative management: preoperatively, we conduct thorough assessments of patients’ underlying health status—particularly in elderly patients or those with multiple comorbidities—collaborating with the Department of Internal Medicine to ensure surgical safety; postoperatively, we provide effective analgesia, nutritional support, and proactive prevention of complications, while also initiating follow-up care after discharge. Patients experiencing persistent abdominal pain, palpable masses, thyroid or breast nodules, recurrent hernia bulging, or biliary stones accompanied by recurrent abdominal discomfort are all encouraged to seek evaluation at the Department of General Surgery.
